Ball care and finding lost balls

Keep your balls in good nick and stop donating them to the water hazard.

Cleaning

  1. Soak in lukewarm water with a little mild dish soap.
  2. Wipe with a soft cloth or soft brush.
  3. Rinse and dry.

Avoid harsh chemicals and hot water. Most balls do not need this often. A quick wipe at the ball washer between holes does the job.

Storage

  • Keep balls in a cool, dry place and out of a hot car boot.
  • Do not leave them in water for long periods.
  • Sort them: play your best, keep older ones for practice.

When to retire a ball

Retire a ball if it is cracked, cut, or the paint and cover are badly worn. Move it to the range bucket.

Finding your ball

  • Watch the ball all the way down. Pick a landmark behind where it landed, like a tree or a bunker, and note it.
  • Mark your balls with a coloured pen or a pattern that you recognise.
  • Play a visible ball in the rough: colour or matte balls are easier to spot.
  • Ask a playing partner to watch your ball too.
  • Search for three minutes, then move on and keep pace.
Mark your ball

Draw a short line or a dot pattern with a permanent marker. It makes your ball easy to identify, and also helps you line up putts.
